Bedroom Design - Don't be a prisoner of your possessions - Staten Island Advance - SILive.com
It is often hard to part with a piece that has a strong sentimental attachment, but if Aunt Fanny’s sofa is not contributing to the design of your living room or bedroom, lose it. Hardwood frames can usually last a lifetime or more, so if that sofa or chair was of good quality 50 years ago, it is of good quality today. An exposed furniture frame can be refinished if it is looking a bit the worse for wear, and a new fabric will bring that piece to life. If the frame is of poor quality, no amount of cosmetic work will make the piece worthy of restoration, so just bite the bullet and send it to the curb. Replace yellowing or frayed shades, be sure the wiring is safe, clean them up a bit and you’ll keep part of your childhood alive in your home. Add a colorful cushion that matches or coordinates with other fabrics in the nursery, and you will succeed in both home design and family relations. read more
