Parental Concerns: Cool Teen Bedroom Design Ideas

Designing a bedroom could be one fun and yet taxing activity. A bedroom is where you retire after a hard day's work. And in the case of a teen, the bedroom may be a place where to relax after a hard day at school.

If you're tasked to design a teen's bedroom, be sure to be faced with the rigors of thinking what color scheme will suit the personality of your teen, what interiors will be the most functional for him or her and what will be conducive for his or her development as an individual.

What could be better than asking your sweet or angst-ridden teener first on what floats his or her boat before starting to infuse your ideas on how to design a bedroom, right? Get nosey on what your teenager considers a cool bedroom look. Remember that what you might find neat back when you're still a teenager may not be neat-o anymore to your teen today.

It's still "pink for girls and blue for boys." NOT! Maybe that color scheme is still the norm for babies. But don't forget that your baby is now a lady or almost one. So, after getting clues on what color he or she wants to dominate the bedroom, do check Handyman's if they've got just what your teen wants.

Now, if you are not that into the color your then-kid asked for, try to at least compromise by following the shades he or she prefers. If he wants his bedroom painted bloody red, get the panels colored that way or some other part of the room and add a tamer color that will complement his choice of hues.

If your teen's bedroom doubles as his or her study room, you might want to consider some color that will also be conducive to studying.

Interior Motives

Is your teen a goodie shoes doll or a rocker youngster? Try to show some support through letting his or her inclinations shine through with the bedroom interiors. The controlling parent in you might want to put everything in order and doesn't want too much mess inside your teen's bedroom. But including a life-size poster of his favorite rockstar or an animal print chair that's reminiscent of her favorite safari spot will remind them how cool and yet in-control parent you are.

The usual teen baggage, er furnishings such as bean bags, a computer, full-body mirrors, roomy closets, and other trimmings - maybe a disco ball or a lava lamp, are still a hit with teens of today. So, don't forget including them in your to-buy lists.

Don't worry. Many of these cool items can be found from bargain sales or flea markets. Just don't be a lazy-ass and go look for them. E-bay can be also of great help in this endeavor. Just don't overbid, ok?

If you can afford a high-tech room replete with high-end computer peripherals, remote-controlled closets and other astounding technological room stuff, great! If not, don't forget that doing your homework will take you to great places if saving while designing your teen's bedroom is your goal.
